Edwin Yearwood

Bio

Edwin Yearwood, or ‘General’ as he is affectionately known, is an entertainer and songwriter whose genius has earned him numerous accolades over the years. Yearwood’s musical career began at 14 when he won a talent contest singing Billy Preston’s You Are Everything To Me. Even then he was able to captivate an audience, and has of course since gone on to hold international audiences spellbound whilst collecting awards. Yearwood is a founding and leading member of the consistently popular band Krosfyah; in 1995, Krosfyah’s sophomore album Ultimate Party-Pump Me Up went on to sell over 50,000 copies.

1995 was also the year Edwin Yearwood became the first artist to win the three titles of Calypso King, Party Monarch and Road March Monarch at the annual Barbados Crop Over Festival, with the massive hit Pump Me Up. That song went Gold in Canada in 1997, and is still regarded as having heralded a new approach to soca with the inclusion of ‘groovy’ and ‘ragga’ tempos. Some of the contemporary soca classics Yearwood has given us during past years include Sak Pasé, Obadele, Krosfyah Massive, Wet Me and Sweatin’. More recently, hits like Carnival On My Mind, Good Time, Party Ah De Year and the 2016 favourite, Home Sweet Home, have all contributed to ensuring that Edwin ‘General’ Yearwood occupies a prominent place in the pantheon of great soca from the Caribbean.
