Bio

Born in London to Barbadian parents, Dee Vine was raised in Barbados from the age of six, when her parents immigrated back. She has been singing from a very early age, wrote her first song aged eight using her Casio keyboard, and was a member of a soca band in the early 1990’s. During her school years she formed a dance group with friends, and she arranged all the choreography, performing at school concerts and local shows.

After returning to London at the age of 17, Dee Vine studied music and drama, but as shyness was keeping her from performing she changed career paths, recently qualifying as a paediatric nurse. A pervasive love for Barbados culture and soca music has now returned her, full circle, to singing; originally an r&b and reggae artist, she made a first attempt in writing a soca track and came out with Tease Dem. Getting great reviews, she decided to dedicate her writing to soca music.

The Soca Empress, as she is often referred to, likes to show her flirtatious and sensual side in her lyrics. She sees herself as Bajan right through, and has always surrounded herself with Bajan food, music and people.
