Introduction

On August 6, Leicester will celebrate 31 years of Caribbean carnival in the city with the theme ‘Carnival – Mas, Music & Myths. Costumed bands and floats participating in the street carnival will starts from Carnival Village at Victoria Park, make their way to the city centre and then back to the park for final performances.

Carnival Village itself will be buzzing from 11am until 8pm, with entertainment on two stages and music zones featuring the best in soca, reggae and urban contemporary music, and the ever-popular Aba Shanti-I will be there to entertain his large fan base. There will be activities and entertainment for the family, including the Fun Fair and a children’s play area, and a chance to win some money by participating in a raffle (tickets have been on sale since April 20).

Carnival Day would not be complete without Caribbean food and drink, and an opportunity to sample goodies from other countries. There will be art and craft stalls with a good mix of cultural products, jewellery, toys and other products, and other vendors promoting their products and services and providing information.

Leicester Caribbean Carnival is a hugely popular multi-cultural event, celebrating the diverse cultures in Leicester whilst keeping the cultural traditions of the Caribbean alive. It is the largest multi-cultural event in the East Midlands catering for the entire family. It’s not to be missed, so join more than 80 thousand people on the carnival parade route, or the 20 thousand others at Carnival Village on the day.
