Born November 10, 1977 in Laventille, Trinidad, Destra joined the music fraternity at an early age, catching the eye of Roy Cape All Stars and leading that band for a number of years. After deciding to pursue a solo career she signed with band Atlantik, and is now their lead vocalist and the leading lady of carnival, not only in Trinidad and Tobago, but also in New York and London, having placed 2nd and 3rd in two Soca Monarch competitions. She has five albums to date, namely Red, White, Black, which features hits like Boodi and Choo Choo, Laventille, which features Negative Vibes and It's Carnival, Independent Lady, Soca or Die and Hott.

Some of her hit tunes include Whey Yuh Want, Tremble It and Bonnie and Clyde, the latter a crowd favourite and was a close contender for Road March 2004. For Carnival 2005, Destra was once again feeding into the hands of her fans; with hits like Anyhow Ah Like It, Love Somebody and Fly she is again a strong contender for the Trinidad & Tobago Road March competiton.
