About Carnival
Carnivals, festivals, fetes, galas, and family fun days have been held in the Deighton and Brackenhall area since the 1950s and 1960s.
The Deighton Carnival, as we know it today, first occurred in August 2002 at the Deighton Centre in Huddersfield. The vision coming from the D.B.I (Deighton and Brackenhall Initiative)
The first event, which took place in the front car park, had the theme âDEIGHTON BY THE SEAâ and was very well attended despite being on a very small scale.
After the success of the first event, the community demanded it be an annual event. The last Saturday in June was set as the official date for the event, and it became a permanent fixture on the Kirklees summer events diary.
Planning soon got underway for the 2003 carnival, and over the years, the event grew in size and quality. Each year, it had a different theme and celebrated the diversity of the area.
