Trinidadian singer and songwriter Coutain has been named Billboard’s Caribbean Up-And-Comer for September 2026, earning recognition from one of the world’s leading music publications during a breakthrough year for the rising star.
The Sangre Grande-born artist was highlighted for his ability to blend soca, reggae, dancehall and R&B influences while introducing Caribbean sounds to new audiences. The recognition comes on the heels of a strong run that has included touring Europe with Kes the Band on its Roots, Rock, Soca Tour and receiving three nominations at the 2026 Caribbean Music Awards, including Best New Soca Artist.
Coutain’s recent success has been boosted by collaborations with producer Michael “Tano” Montano, particularly Jamtown, which Billboard reports has generated close to two million official on-demand streams in the US. He followed that release with Wedding Band, a modern reimagining of Mighty Sparrow’s classic Mr. Walker.
Speaking to Billboard, Coutain said he hopes his growing platform can help shine a spotlight on emerging Caribbean talent.
“A long-term goal for me is to reach a place where I could help the next generation and show the world that the Caribbean has so much to offer. We have stars living right here.”
With a debut solo album expected after Trinidad Carnival 2027, Coutain continues to build momentum internationally. Billboard’s recognition is another significant milestone and further evidence that the Trinidadian artist is becoming one of the Caribbean’s most promising new voices.
