Derby loses its Caribbean Carnival to coronavirus

|

Released Date

The annual Caribbean Carnival has been a feature of life in Derby since 1975, but this year’s event, scheduled for Sunday 19 July, has fallen victim to the same Covid-19 virus that has already finished off carnivals in Bristol, Leeds, Leicester, Northampton and Oxford, among many others.

The organiser, Derby West Indian Community Association (DWICA), said in a statement: “Taking into consideration government advice with regards to social distancing and the environment in which the coronavirus Covid-19 can spread, DWICA, like other carnival organisers has acted in the best interest of everyone connected with Derby Caribbean Carnival to postpone this year’s event.” For more information, email [email protected] or tel: 01332 371529.
