Soca artist Machel Montano joined Belize Prime Minister John Briceño in supporting the Save Soil Movement during a September 2026 visit to the country.
Montano and Briceño signed a memorandum of understanding before taking part in a tree-planting ceremony in Orange Walk. The event highlighted soil health, reforestation and environmental awareness.
Montano warned that harmful farming practices, including slash-and-burn agriculture, can damage soil and reduce biodiversity. He said healthier soil could strengthen food production, support farmers, manage flooding and store more carbon.
The partnership supports the Greening Belize Initiative, which aims to plant one million trees by 2030. Briceño said Montano’s connection with young people could help broaden environmental awareness.
Montano has also supported Sadhguru’s Conscious Planet initiative and promoted the campaign through the Save Soil Riddim project, which features his song Touch the Ground. He performed at the Belize Soca and Culture Festival on 20 September.
