Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the North American rights to Maya Cozier’s directorial debut film She Paradise.
The film follows the life of 17-year-old Sparkle, an aspiring dancer who chances on a group of female dancers in downtown Trinidad and decides to join them after witnessing their sisterhood bond.
Sparkle is introduced into the nightlife. Despite its enthralling glitz, glamour and money, she must make some decisions or risk having things going sour.
The soca dance drama features Onessa Nestor in the leading role, with support from Kimberly Crichton (Home Again), Denisia Latchman, Michael Cherrie (The Rise and Fall of John Tesoro), Kern Mollineau and Chelsey Rampersad.
The film was written by Maya Cozier and Melina Brown and features an all-female production team comprising Jennifer Konawal Brady, Mishka Brown, Kara Baker, Jolene Mendes and Marie-Elena Joseph.
Followingits debut a year ago and a successful screening at the Tribeca Film Festival on 14 June, it returns to the screens on 19 November 2021.
