Held at London’s Shaw Theatre on Saturday 28 October, Miss Caribbean UK celebrated its 9th year with a show that kept a passionate audience on the edge of their seats throughout the various rounds and entertainment.
It was good to see representation and support from the High Commissions of Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, as well as Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, for the contestants.
The event lived up to its claim that it is structured to promote, educate, inspire, and celebrate the historical and cultural impact of the Caribbean within the UK, by creating a vehicle to bring the Caribbean and its diaspora within the UK closer.
Featured rounds of Carnival wear, Evening gowns and Charity allowed the contestants to showcase their credentials to be Queen.
Alas, there could only be one overall winner, and that honour went to Eshiva Wright, representing Jamaica.
When Soca News asked her immediate feelings, she said: “In this moment I feel electric! The vibrations are incredibly high and I’m super proud to positively promote the Caribbean from now on until next year. Here we come UK! Here we come Jamaica!”
