Soca singer Lornette ‘Fya Empress’ Reid has been a resident of Tobago for over 15 years, but stays true to her Vincentian roots. Her talent and versatility mean that, although she is primarily a soca-ragga artist, she was also able to snag the title of T&T Calypso Queen – for I Am Woman in 2012. That same year she took the award for best female soca artist at the Trinidad International Soca Awards, for No Money No Wuk.
Fya Empress was also crowned Ragga Soca Monarch Queen in 2013, International Soca Monarch Finalist 2013 and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Calypso Monarch 2017. She’s known for soca tunes like True Vincy, Ah Ketch It, Earthquake, Country Meets Town and Rum Please (the latter with Fay-Ann Lyons), Under Meh, soca-zouk number Batty, Soca Calling, Fire in de Hole featuring Shaunelle, So What and Fya Empress in D Center (on the Dennery Segment Mabouya Riddim). Her songs for 2019 include In Excess, Solidarity, Own It and Speaking In Tongues.
You can find Fya Empress performing in London on Saturday 26 October at the Wally Foster Community Centre, in celebration of St. Vincent & the Grenadines 40th anniversary of independence.
