Released Date

Barking & Dagenham Carnival is set to return in full splendour on Saturday 12 July, marking a significant milestone as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. The family-friendly event will take place at Barking Town Square (IG11 7LU) from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM, promising an unforgettable day of culture, creativity and community spirit.

From its humble beginnings as a children’s carnival, the event has grown into one of East London’s most vibrant intergenerational celebrations, bringing together residents, artists, performers and cultural groups. This year’s theme, ‘Together We Grow – A Greener Future’, is rooted in the borough’s manifesto, One Borough, One Community. No-one left behind, and focuses on the power of unity, sustainability and artistic expression to build a stronger, more connected society.

A highlight of the day will be a lively parade led by pupils from Warren School. They will march from Barking Station to Barking Town Square, officially opening the festivities at 1:00 PM. The main stage will feature performances by international carnival artists, local street dancers, and community groups, showcasing the diverse talents and cultures that define the borough.

Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy various activities at The Carnival Village, including workshops in costume-making, Steel Pan, Tamboo Bamboo, and African drumming. Local business stalls, face painting, and interactive installations will also be designed to engage and entertain all ages.

Organised by UKON Careers, the carnival has served as a platform for nurturing creative talent, promoting carnival arts and encouraging career development in the arts sector. Over the past decade, it has played a vital role in championing inclusivity, community engagement and cultural pride.
