Carnival of the World is set to return to the streets of Reading this coming Saturday 9 August, promising a celebration of global culture, music, and dance. The free event, taking place from 12pm to 5:30pm along Broad Street, will feature a high street parade and a rich programme of live performances and artistic displays.
This year’s main stage will showcase a diverse mix of local and international talent, including the Jazzrobeat Collective – a teen jazz ensemble bringing youthful energy; Calypsonian Gerry Ranks; Afrobeat R&B artist Lord B; reggae soul singer Harmonie Deja; and the acclaimed 25-piece Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra (RASPO).
Attendees can look forward to a spectacle of costumes and performance with the Broad Street Parade. Featured acts include Lost In Paradise Mas with their stunning carnival wear; African drumming and stilt dancing by Kaagô; samba rhythms from Beatroots; and the dramatic presence of four-metre-tall puppets from Global Grooves.
Organised by CultureMix Arts and supported by Reading Central Business Improvement District, Reading’s Economy & Destination Agency (REDA), and Arts Council England, the Carnival of the World celebrates Reading’s multicultural community and creative spirit.
“This is more than just a street party,” said Artistic Director Mary Genis. “Carnival of the World is a joyful celebration of Reading’s diversity and creativity – and an invitation for everyone to come together in the heart of our town.”
