Derby loses its Caribbean Carnival to coronavirus

The annual Caribbean Carnival has been a feature of life in Derby since 1975, but this year’s event, scheduled for Sunday 19 July, has fallen victim to the same Covid-19 virus that has already finished off carnivals in Bristol, Leeds, Leicester, Northampton and Oxford, among many others.

The organiser, Derby West Indian Community Association (DWICA), said in a statement: “Taking into consideration government advice with regards to social distancing and the environment in which the coronavirus Covid-19 can spread, DWICA, like other carnival organisers has acted in the best interest of everyone connected with Derby Caribbean Carnival to postpone this year’s event.” For more information, email or tel: 01332 371529.
