Soca super star Machel Montano’s contribution to the arts has been recognised by the University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT), which has awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Arts. He will be presented with the honour at a graduation ceremony at UTT on 14 and 15 November.
Montano, who has been in the business for more than 35 years, is one of five outstanding awardees. The others are former senator Roy Augustus (Honorary Distinguished Fellow), former footballer and cricketer Alvin Corneal (Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters), retired electrical engineer Leo Martin (Honorary Doctor of Science) and Poet Laureate Eintou Pearl Springer (Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts).
A total of 1,700 students will receive their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the two-day event; two Master of Philosophy and seven Doctor of Philosophy degrees will also be presented.
