COVID-19 may have stopped the carnival, but it certainly not the competition. A virtual contest, entitled the ‘Gimme Soca Party Monarch Competition’, will be held in Antigua for the first time on Saturday 1 August – also the country’s Emancipation Day.
Up to thirty three artists submitted songs for the preliminary round of the event, which were adjudicated by a panel of judges. Eleven have made it through to the final, scheduled for Saturday 1 August, 8pm at the Dean William Lake Centre. The event will be broadcast live via social media.
