Saint Lucia celebrated its 47th Independence anniversary on 22 February 2026, that is, 47 years since gaining sovereignty from Britain in 1979.
Since 22 February fell on a Sunday, the public holiday moved to Monday, 23 February. This year’s independence theme was, “Douvan Asanm – Nourishing our people, strengthening our nation.”
Events included a national military parade, a rally at the Micoud Playing Field, flag-raising ceremonies, fireworks and a baton relay. Street parades such as “Annou We-y” in Castries also took place.
Saint Lucia achieved independence under Sir John Compton after colonial shifts between Britain and France.
Soca News wishes Saint Lucia a happy 47th Independence anniversary.
