Released Date

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has secured a third consecutive term in office after her party, the Barbados Labour Party (BLP), won all 30 seats in the House of Assembly during the general election held on Wednesday 11 February, 2026.

Official results released by the Electoral and Boundaries Commission confirmed that the BLP maintained complete control of Parliament, repeating its clean sweep victories from 2018 and 2022. Voter turnout was reported at just over 55 per cent.

The main opposition, the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), did not win any seats, and smaller parties and independent candidates were also unsuccessful.

Mottley, born on 1 October 1965, in Bridgetown, has been a Member of Parliament for Saint Michael North East since 1994. She became the political leader of the BLP in 2008 and first took office as Prime Minister in 2018. As the first woman to hold this office, she led Barbados’ transition to a republic in 2021, removing the British monarch as head of state.

During the campaign, the BLP focused on several key issues, including economic management, climate resilience, renewable energy expansion, housing, job creation, and social protection. The party highlighted its achievements during previous terms, including debt restructuring, post-pandemic economic recovery, and tourism growth.

The government has indicated that its new term will prioritise renewable energy projects, the digital transformation of public services, youth employment initiatives, and continued investment in infrastructure. Cost-of-living measures will also remain central to its policies.
