Reuben P. Joseph, based in London, is an Artistic Creative Director and Fashion/Beauty Pageant Choreographer with more than 20 years’ experience. Of Black African descent, Joseph has worked extensively in the UK’s Afro and Asian fashion industries, gaining recognition for his stage productions and fashion choreography. His latest work, Midnight in Rio, marks a new chapter, combining theatre with the traditions of carnival.
Ahead of the production, Joseph shared insights into the inspiration, challenges, and vision behind the show.
What inspired you to create Midnight in Rio?

Who is the show aimed at?
Anyone who enjoys Brazilian culture and that of Trinidad and Tobago.
What has been the most challenging part of bringing the production to life?
Research, lack of sleep, and finances have all been a challenge.
How do you hope audiences will feel after experiencing it?
Very informed, while enjoying a performance that fuses two of the world’s greatest carnivals. Midnight in Rio is a celebration of the people of Brazil through their culture, music, dance, and carnival, alongside the essence of Trinidad and Tobago, capturing the “Spirit of the Caribbean: Rum and Coca Cola.”
Event Highlight: Midnight in Rio – A Spectacular Theatrical Production
Kavanage Couture presents Midnight in Rio, choreographed by Reuben P. Joseph and infused with Caribbean spirit. The show delivers a dynamic mix of music, dance, and costume splendour, featuring themes such as Rum and Coca Cola that embody cultural energy and rhythm.
The event takes place on Wednesday 20 August 2025 at Meadows, 11a Woodfield Road, London, W9 2BA. Doors open at 6pm, and the show begins at 8pm.
Costumes are designed by Kutipz Kouture, Helen Davenport, Leona Lupwar Couture, Ainsley Yearwood, and RPJ. Tickets are available at eventbrite.com.
