As the energy of another New York summer peaks, Trinidad and Tobago’s rising female soca artist Rreecey is ready to make her mark. Born Cherreece Bernard, she demonstrates her growth and strategic mindset with her latest single, “Foundation.”
Produced by Captain John and mixed by Parry Jack, with vocals directed by Fojo, “Foundation” was composed explicitly for Rreecey by acclaimed songwriter Teddy Rhymes. This Power Soca anthem is strategically timed to align with significant events in the diaspora, including New York’s Labor Day festivities and Miami Carnival.
“I want my music to be so engaging that people can’t get enough of it,” Rreecey stated. With mentorship from Calypso legend Singing Sandra in 2014, she understands the dedication required in the industry. “I know exactly what I have to do, and I won’t stop until I get where I want to be,” she asserted.
Rreecey’s three-year career has included tracks like Auto Body, Stink and Dutty and Pong It, collaborating closely with songwriter Shaft (Jason Bishop). She has also made her mark during Tobago’s October Carnival, where she often debuts new music to build momentum for Trinidad’s Carnival season.
Originally from Belmont, Rreecey’s passion and determination shine through in her commitment to long-term growth within the unpredictable world of soca. “Everyone’s experience will differ. I’ve seen my growth, and with persistence, I will make it to the top,” she expressed.
With Foundation, Rreecey is not just releasing another track; she’s asserting herself as a strong and rising voice in the soca genre, eager to contribute to the vibrant Caribbean culture she loves.
