Saint Lucia’s transportation sector is preparing for a fresh change as Uber opens registration for taxi drivers ahead of its upcoming launch on the island. From Castries to the more expansive island, licensed taxi operators are now invited to sign up and get ready to use the Uber app.
Uber announced on 16 December 2025 that registration and onboarding are officially open islandwide. Taxi drivers can download the Uber Driver app and begin the process immediately to join Uber Taxi, a service that works exclusively with licensed taxi operators.
Jorge Cordero, General Manager for Uber in Saint Lucia, explained that the company is looking to work closely with local drivers. He said Uber wants to help licensed taxi operators increase their earnings through technology while connecting them with tourists who already use the Uber app. He also noted that Uber is reaching out to taxi associations and transport companies across the island to ensure collaboration.
Uber Taxi allows licensed drivers to easily connect with residents and tourists who rely on the app while travelling. Uber Taxi is already achieving great results in other Caribbean countries, including Barbados, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic, as well as in major cities such as New York and Paris.
To complete registration, drivers must provide documents such as a driver’s license, taxi permit, proof of insurance, bank details, a profile picture, and a background check. Interested drivers can sign up online as Uber continues preparations towards the launch.
For now, the focus remains on onboarding taxi drivers. Uber says it will officially announce its launch in Saint Lucia once everything is ready.
