Founded in 2003 by a Trinidad and Tobago native, entrepreneur Mr. Colin ‘CJ’ Jackman, the Soca Awards Organization was created to bring recognition to the Soca and Calypso genre. Mr. Jackman migrated in the early 80’s to the U.S. and made his debut on the Soca stage in 1989 with the hit “Poison in the Party”. In 2001 & 2002 he was the first runner-up in The Young Kings of Calypso Monarch competition in Trinidad. In 2003 his positive tune “When Ah Mother Cry” took him to higher heights in winning the Arima Calypso Monarch competition. In 2006 he was awarded the Upliftment and Improvement (U & I) Award in New York City by, Ms. Monica Sanchez, CEO of CCNMGI & CIP org., for his key leader ship role towards the upliftment and improvement of Caribbean Culture and Soca music, which was presented to him by actor & humanitarian Mr. Danny “Diehard” Glover. The SAO has toiled especially for one particular Award show among the various community efforts – the International Soca Awards (iSA).
