Pure Lime has been around as long as people have been rubbing chocolate onto their bodies at Notting Hill Carnival. As the original chocolate band, they’ve been doing their thing for quite a while now: for ten years as a Sunday section in Cocoyea, and then taking the leap into independence.
Now in its 24th year, Pure Lime is the grown up chocolate band. But this year will be fundamentally different; Mrs Chocolate, Theresa D’Abreu, the force behind the scenes, won’t be there. Theresa lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, 21 October 2018, so this will be the band’s first year on the road without her serene and steadfast presence.
Theresa was very much loved and respected by the Pure Lime family and far beyond. She was a former chairman of CAMF, the mas band association, and for many years the esteemed captain and coach of Hendon Hockey Club. She will be long remembered by her beloved family and dear friends, as well as many band members, teammates and work mates.
So, on Carnival Sunday in Pure Lime this year, it will still be about the chocolate, and always about the lime – but also very much about honouring T, and paying tribute to her memory.
