Pantonic Steel Orchestra has launched an urgent campaign to secure a new permanent panyard, calling on supporters and the wider community to help find a suitable space for rehearsals, workshops and the storage of instruments.
The Hackney-based steel orchestra, established in 1988, has been a cornerstone of the UK’s steelpan movement for nearly four decades. Made up of players of all ages, Pantonic is renowned for its performances at festivals, community events and prestigious venues while providing educational and cultural opportunities through steelpan music.
The band says finding a long-term home is vital to ensuring its continued growth and safeguarding its contribution to the community. A dedicated panyard would provide a secure base for rehearsals, youth development programmes, performances and the preservation of the orchestra’s extensive collection of steelpans and equipment.
As part of the campaign, Pantonic is encouraging anyone who may know of a suitable venue, unused building, warehouse, community space or partnership opportunity to come forward. The band has also launched an online form to gather information and offers of support from members of the public.
