Soca sensation Machel Montano has received the keys to New York City at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York.
Mayor Eric Adams presented the Entertainer’s Key to the City to Montano on Sunday 25 August, as part of the Rise Up NYC concert series, in collaboration with the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
This marked the start of a four-night residency at the Apollo Theater over the Labor Day weekend, from Friday 30 August to Monday 2 September.
He has previously received keys to the Cities of Kingston, San Fernando, and Port of Spain.
The Entertainer’s Key to the City is a symbolic honour awarded by a city to recognize an entertainer’s significant contributions to the cultural and social fabric of the community.
