Saint Lucia National Schools Calypso and Soca Finalists Named

Finalists have been announced for the National Schools Calypso and Soca Competitions, a key feature of the Lucian Junior Carnival season.

Following closed auditions involving 59 schools islandwide, selected primary and secondary schools will advance to the finals, scheduled for 5 June (Soca) and 3 July (Calypso).

Among the Primary Schools Calypso finalists are Anglican Infant, Ave Maria Girls Primary, Gordon Walcott Memorial and Les Etangs Combined, with songs addressing leadership, responsibility and social issues. The Secondary Schools Calypso Finals will feature Castries Comprehensive Secondary, Babonneau Secondary, Micoud Secondary, St Joseph’s Convent and Sir Ira Simmons Secondary.

Now in its second year, the Schools Soca Competition continues to grow, with primary finalists including Ave Maria Girls Primary, Babonneau Primary and Carmen René Memorial, and secondary finalists such as Choiseul Secondary, Corinth Secondary and Entrepot Secondary.

Judging focused on lyrical content, vocal delivery, stage presence and overall artistic impact. The competitions form part of a wider Junior Carnival programme aimed at developing youth talent and preserving Saint Lucia’s carnival traditions.
