Trinidadian singer and steelpan player Kwesi Paul, popularly known as Shottalinkz, recently shared important advice for aspiring artists. He urges up-and-coming musicians to take time and learn how the music industry works; only then can they navigate it successfully.
Shottalinkz’s journey into music has been a constant application of the principle he now teaches young artists. From working with already established soca personalities like Machel Montano and Sharlon Bailey, he has consistently accumulated industry resources and knowledge.
He resides in Belmont with his two children and runs a home-based studio in addition to working with steelpan bands. His portfolio as a steelpan musician is exceptional as he has arranged more than 17 steel orchestras. Shottalinkz has also worked as the music director of the Desperadoes Steel Orchestra which, was featured in the 2005 play, Steel, by Saint Lucian Nobel Prize laureate Sir. Derek Walcott.
Shottalinkz opened his studio, KSP Studios, in 2020 and also began singing around this time. Since then he has impressively produced songs for artists in Canada, France, Ghana, and Germany. In 2023 he released two songs namely, a single called Mash Up De Party and a collaboration with Mad Dog Fresh called Mud, Oil, and Powder.
Shottalinkz’s ability to sing other genres including Hip Hop, Dancehall, and RnB makes him a versatile artist who can compete on the global stage. Indeed, he hopes to make it to international airwaves as he states: “From the very beginning, my plan has always been to build an international audience.” He now has a music distribution deal with VPAL and is looking to explore other music streaming platforms.
