Red Plastic Bag (Stedson Wiltshire – also known as RPB or just Bag) is a successful calypsonian from Barbados.
RPB was born on 17 June 1961 in Bayfield, Saint Philip. Like most calypso artistes, he began performing at an early age. His career took off in 1979, but he did not start singing professionally until mid-1980. He became popular for artistically infusing reggae and soca beats in his songs.
He first entered the Barbados National Calypso Competition in 1982 and became the youngest person ever to win the crown, beating a host of seasoned calypsonians, including the reigning monarch Romeo and crowd favourite the Mighty Gabby. He sang his compositions Sugar Made Us FreeandMr Harding…and a calypso legend was born.
Probably his best-known song remains his classic hit from 1994 Ragga Ragga, which has been recorded in several languages and continues to be played in the most unlikely places around the world! RPB has built a large fanbase, who have supported him throughout his 30-plus years in music.
