This summer, Battersea Power Station is transforming into a Caribbean experience, thanks to an ongoing partnership between Virgin Atlantic Holidays and the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI). Running through to late August, The Spirit of Barbados brings the island’s vibrant culture to London with a series of free events, including food and music, as well as laid-back lounges and sunset vibes.
The Bajan Street Food Experience on Saturday 12 July, is where visitors can enjoy authentic island cuisine and live cooking demonstrations by Bajan chef Randolph Bancroft in Power Station Park.
A Virgin Atlantic Holidays pop-up store will open from Monday 28 July to Sunday 3 August in Turbine Hall B, offering expert travel advice and inspiration for those dreaming of a tropical escape.
On August 1 and 2, the sounds of the Caribbean come alive with steel drum performances across the estate, bringing feel-good island rhythms to the riverside.
The summer celebration wraps up with two Sunset Sessions on Friday 22 and Sunday 23 August at The Coaling Jetty — a laid-back evening of tropical beats and cocktails as the sun sets over London.
Throughout the campaign, visitors can also unwind in the Barbados Chill Zone, open until 25 August, offering a quiet escape with island-inspired décor and seating in Turbine Hall B.
“This summer, we’re bringing the spirit of Barbados to the heart of London,” said a BTMI spokesperson. “It’s a little taste of what makes the island so special.”
Virgin Atlantic operates daily flights to Barbados from London Heathrow and Manchester, with return fares starting at £618 (as of June 4, 2025).
