“This is an outstanding achievement. To be chosen as an ambassador to the community is a powerful responsibility, and the trust placed in Mista David speaks volumes. I am extremely proud of this moment. May God continue to protect him and guide his journey as he helps bring the community closer together and spreads the culture we truly love.”
Cleon Lord, head of CO2 Productions and long-time manager of Mista David, shared how proud he was of the artist following his appointment as Soca Ambassador of Baltimore.
Baltimore-based soca performer Mista David was officially named Soca Ambassador of Baltimore on Saturday 20 December. The honour was presented by Dr Elaine Simon, head of the Baltimore Carnival Community, in recognition of his ongoing work within the Caribbean community and his contribution to soca music in the city.
The appointment places Mista David in a leadership role to support the growth of Baltimore Carnival, encourage unity, and engage younger generations with the music and its traditions. Organisers said the decision reflected confidence in his ability to represent the city locally and abroad.
In addition to his ambassadorial role, Mista David is exploring new musical projects. He is working with Jou Vay, an AI-powered soca initiative by Sheldon Mendoza, which combines traditional soca rhythms with an AI visualiser. The project has released a track titled Soca Is Life.
The collaboration is expected to introduce soca to new audiences and encourage discussion around how technology can complement, rather than replace, human creativity in music.
