Mayor Sadiq Khan announced £4.66 million in March 2026 to support Notting Hill Carnival during its 60th anniversary year. The funding is in addition to the £946,300 already committed by City Hall.
The investment will fund additional security measures, including more stewards, barriers, and improved crowd-control plans. These changes follow a 2024 independent review that identified safety risks linked to increasing crowd sizes.
Mayor Khan said: “As identified in an independent review, Notting Hill Carnival’s incredible growth means that changes are needed to improve safety and security for all those involved. As organisers prepare to celebrate its 60th anniversary this August, I’m stepping in with the support they need to meet requirements and ensure this hugely important event for our capital can take place.”
Organisers will also assume responsibility for certain operational duties, such as road closures, previously handled by the Metropolitan Police. This will allow officers to focus on core policing responsibilities.
Notting Hill Carnival remains one of the world’s largest street festivals and generates nearly £400 million annually for London’s economy.
Notting Hill Carnival is scheduled for Sunday 30 and Monday 31 August 2026.
