On 9 December, Ashley Green charmed and glammed her way to becoming the winner of the 26th edition of the Miss Caribbean and Commonwealth beauty pageant. The event occurred at the Rock Tower in London, where an avid audience watched 11 contestants compete in three exciting rounds: the swimsuit round, the traditional wear round, and the evening wear round.
It was an exhilarating evening, beginning with a red carpet and drinks reception. Entertainment consisted of talking drum artists whose performance was inspiringly humorous and a welcome addition to the night’s revelry and contest.
In attendance were beauty pageant royalty, including Miss Philippines UK, Miss Caribbean UK, Miss Pride of Africa, Miss Asia UK, Miss Uganda UK and many others. The judging panel was also replete with renowned media and fashion personalities, including designers Adebayo Jones and Jose Hendo, model and actress Fumi Desalu-void, and former model and patron of Miss Caribbean and Commonwealth Beverley Heath. Also sitting in the same panel were former title-holders Margaret Alcindor, Shaherah Jordan, Nicole Afolabi, and Miss Philippines UK Victoria Inglis.
Pricilla Nantongo of Uganda and Shaneen Angeles of Guyana were the first and second runners-up, respectively. Other awardees of the night included Jalirah Ampuugah of Uganda, who earned the Best Traditional Wear Title, Fazeela representing Pakistan, who clinched the Founders Choice award and Chanone Murday of Mauritius, who claimed the Director’s Choice title.
The star of the night, Ashley Green, expressed her joy and excitement at being crowned Miss Caribbean and Commonwealth. She looks forward to using her influence responsibly.
