Two carnival-related events will be taking place as part of the 2023 Kensington and Chelsea Festival.
Details are scarce, but if the programme is similar to last year’s, Carnival Comes to Chelsea should provide a mix of soca (Triniboi Joocie starred in 2022), steelpan and mas. It takes place between midday and 6pm on Friday 4 August outside the Chelsea Theatre SW10 0DR. The performance space is on the south side of the King’s Road and slightly set back from it. The nearest mainline railway station is Imperial Wharf. You’re advised to check the K&C Festival website on the day “as the weather may mean the schedule has to change”.
The Venture Centre is inviting us all to come and celebrate carnival arts at the North Kensington Carnival Party. It’s scheduled for Thursday 24 August and runs from midday to 6pm at Portobello Green W10 5TD. This is the space next to the canopy on the west side of Portobello Road between the Westway flyover and Cambridge Gardens. Again, check the K&C Festival website nearer the time for an updated schedule.
Both events are free and no booking is required – though you may need either sun cream or a coat, depending on the weather!
