Blaxx (Dexter Stewart)

Covid claims soca star Blaxx

|

After contracting Covid-19, soca star Blaxx (Dexter Stewart) died on Monday 28 March 2022 just a week after being admitted to Arima General Hospital, Trinidad and Tobago. The funeral tribute was held at Queen’s Park Savannah.

The Rum Ina Me Head singer had previously been hospitalised in 2020 with lung and kidney problems.

Blaxx had a distinguished career in soca and was a frequent Soca Monarch finalist. Originally calling himself the Mighty Hot Chocolate, he was a member of Atlantik, Byron Lee & the Dragonaires and Blue Ventures. He is probably best known as lead singer of Roy Cape All Stars (known as D’All Starz since 2017). He had a hit with I Feel Like Hulk in 2018 and three years later hosted the show Blaxx and Friends. Blaxx released Mash Up in anticipation of the 2022 Taste of Carnival season.
