This year’s 19 semi-finalists in the Yello International Bashment Soca competition have been whittled down to a dozen who will take the battle to defending monarch Lil Rick (Ricky Reid) at Pirates Cove on 6 July.
Barbadian contestants include Lil Rick’s son UndaDawg singing Ben Over, Jagwa De Champ with Bounce, King Bubba FM (She Always Bend Over), Mara Rose (Handle It), Marzville (O.M.G.), Mole (Deh Wid Um), SK (Reverse), Sugarrhe (Press My Buttons) and Walkes (I Waan Meet Meat). Joining them from Guyana will be Blaze Anthonio singing De Forenah, St Lucian duo Subance and Mighty (Two Clap) and, from St Vincent & the Grenadines, Sita the Lyrical Diva (Twirl).
Meanwhile, Barbados’ National Cultural Foundation has released the names of the 36 semi-finalists for the Junior Calypso Monarch competition, which takes place at Wildey Gymnasium on 20 July.
