Soca News paid its annual visit to the Foire de Paris at Porte de Versailles and was not disappointed. Slight rain didn’t dampen the crowd’s enthusiasm for the lunchtime parade of mas bands, and the aisles of Hall 4 – devoted to the food, drink, crafts and music of French overseas territories such as Martinique, Guadeloupe and Guyane – were far busier than last year.
Once again, the stage performances were a highlight for any lover of the infectious rhythms of zouk, compas and bouyon. SN caught Orlane from Réunion singing the delicious ‘Chokola’, Jimmy Ramasami, Gladys Cabarrus – whose powerful voice and energy are reminiscent of Lima Calbio – and Jocelyn Deloumeaux.
