Friday 26 February 2025, Trinidad and Tobago will host an exciting new addition to the Carnival calendar. ‘Frolic’ is designed entirely for the enjoyment of its patrons, promising to rekindle the magic of Carnival Friday and deliver an unforgettable experience. Created by renowned radio personality and event host Ken Simmons, Frolic is a food-inclusive fete that combines high-energy music, top-tier entertainment, and a unique celebration of culture.
Ken Simmons, who has a legacy of producing unforgettable events, aims to revitalise Carnival Friday, a day that has faced uncertainty since the departure of the International Soca Monarch competition. “What we’re doing here is solidifying our carnival again. It’s crucial for us, as stakeholders in this cultural space, to ensure the world sees, recognises, and appreciates that we hold fast to our festival,” Simmons stated. Following Carnival 2024, he teamed up with well-known event promoter Cliff Harris from Tropix Entertainment to fill the gap left by the absence of the Soca Monarch.
Frolic will take place at Queen’s Hall in St. Ann’s and feature performances from Soca heavyweights such as Bunji Garlin, Farmer Nappy, Lyrikal, and Mical Teja. “This is more than just a fete,” said Simmons. “Frolic is an immersive experience. We’re bridging the gaps between entertainment, culture, and service. It’s about restoring those ‘feel-good’ vibes and reintroducing the joy of mingling, sharing, and celebrating together as one people.”
The event is designed to cater to everyone, offering a food-inclusive format that allows patrons to bring coolers or enjoy a diverse range of cuisines at the bar. The menu promises to be a global fusion, featuring Jamaican, Creole, Mediterranean, Chinese, Indian, Italian, and, of course, Trinidad and Tobago’s beloved local dishes, along with a variety of desserts.
Simmons emphasises the importance of authenticity in the event, ensuring that every element of Frolic is crafted with care and passion. “The expectations today are higher than they were in the 90s, and we’re not lowering the standard,” he stated. “We’re intentionally recreating the vibe we want for 2025. The DJs and musical lineup will be exactly what the Carnival doctor ordered.”
