Fya Empress becomes Queen of Calypso

|

Fya Empress (Lornette Nedd) has emerged as the new Queen of Calypso, dethroning Shaunelle McKenzie in the Vincy Queen of Calypso Competition 2023. Her winning performance of Price of Neglect at the Russell’s Auditorium on 3 June secured her the crown, with Nubian Empress taking second place and Shaunelle placing third.

Fya’s victory comes as no surprise to her fans. She has previously won titles such as the 2017 Calypso Monarch, 2013 Ragga Soca Monarch, and 2012 Road March, is a three-time Tobago Soca Monarch and has been a finalist in the International Soca Monarch competition.

While Fya celebrates her victory, she sees it as a stepping stone and remains focused on her ultimate goal: the Calypso Monarch crown. She aims to compete against the kings of calypso, and prove herself in that esteemed competition. She is constantly seeking to improve her craft, frequently changing writers to refine her productions and topics.
