Grenada is a tri-island destination made up of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique and is located in the eastern Caribbean. Just like many Caribbean islands, it has suffered a tumultuous and checkered history on its way to emancipation and freedom from colonisers. Today, February 7, as it celebrates its 49 independence day anniversary, the island, though it has gained freedom, has still not gained Republican status.
Until her passing on 8 September 2022, Queen Elizabeth II was the Queen. The monarchy has now been inherited by King Charles III, her successor.
We wish all Grenadians a Happy 49th Year of Independence.
There are various events happening in London to celebrate this year’s independence in particular and for a really good cause, there is the United Groups of Grenada – 49th Independence Gala Dinner & Dance, this Saturday 11 February 2023 at The Decorium, 22 Western Road, Wood Green, London, N22 6UH.
