Although Spicemas Corporation, the main organiser of Grenada Carnival, will not be presenting the festival this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government has given the green light to private promoters to host cultural events leading up to the Carnival festivities in August.
Prime Minister Dr Mitchell announced that the authorities have decided to be mindful about agreeing to allow promoters to organise mass social events, until Grenada reaches herd immunity. He noted that the reason for allowing the cultural events to take place publicly is to create an outlet for people to de-stress, after being confined indoors due to the ban on social activities. However, Dr Mitchell stated that participation in these events is based on the condition that enough people get vaccinated ahead of the events in August.
Of the 161 people who have contracted the Covid-19 virus in Grenada since their first case in March 2020, there have been 160 recoveries and one death.
