Released Date

The much-loved Guyana Folk Festival returns this year as part of wider celebrations marking Guyana’s 60th Anniversary of Independence – Diamond Jubilee. Organised by the Guyana (UK) Social Development Association (GUSDA), the family-friendly cultural showcase takes place on Sunday 17 May, bringing together the best of Guyanese heritage, food, music and entertainment.

First held in 2008, the Folk Festival has become a staple on the community calendar, offering a taste of home through traditional dishes such as pepper pot, curry and roti, cook‑up rice, cassava pone and pine tarts, complemented by live performances, poetry and cultural presentations. The event provides an important space for togetherness, reflection and passing traditions on to younger generations and the wider Caribbean community.

The celebrations extend beyond the daytime festival, with Guyana’s 60th Anniversary of Independence – Diamond Jubilee taking place the evening before. The special dinner, show, and dance mark six decades of independence while celebrating the continued contribution and unity of the Guyanese diaspora in the UK.
