Some may know him as the real MVP or for bringing Pandemonium on the road or simply as Sedale.
Sedale Simei is a musical powerhouse in the soca arena in Saint Lucia. He first competed on the Soca Monarch finals stage in 2011 with Nah Stop Whining. Still, he only began gaining recognition in 2014 when he debuted Pandemonium with Trinidadian producer Wild Fire, making him a household name. Sedale and his pulsating tunes have become a staple for the Saint Lucia Carnival with bangers like Neighbour, Stick On You, No Joke, Push Back, and much more.
He has already begun releasing music for this season with his hit Wet Me Down and is currently working on a Kompa-style release, tapping into the French mix. Sedale, however, is not a one-trick pony. He has written and produced masterpieces for other top local artists. He has also collaborated with many regional artists, such as Preedy with Land I Love and Drop That.
While other artists may only focus on soca or releasing music during carnival, Sedale also taps into other genres such as reggae with the tune Melanin and dancehall with Emergency alongside Lisa J Weeks, another Saint Lucian artist.
Appointed as one of the Saint Lucia Carnival ambassadors for yet another year, Sedale also hosts two annual signature events on the season’s calendar, Transcend Moonlight Mas on Tuesday 9 July and JOB (Just One Bottle) Friday 12 July.
In 2009, he, alongside his team members, created the brand Deeper Than Soca. On Thursday 27 June, Sedale gives his fans an inside look into this brand, the journey, the struggles, and all the highs and lows with the release of his first EP, Deeper Than Soca, which comprises a documentary and album release.
Soca News had the opportunity to sit with Sedale, and this is what he had to say about his release: “This is my first body of work that I’m putting out. It’s going to be a Soca EP. In that EP, we will touch on different areas and things I’ve gone through in my life.”
He also said, “Because it’s a Soca EP, fans can expect feel-good music, gonna have Groovy Dennery Segment and Power Soca on there as well.”
Deeper Than Soca – The EP was shot by Creedkool and edited by Kendal Straughn of First Cut Studio and Jesse Evans of Wavemaker Productions.
