It was an evening of splendour as specially invited guests gathered at Royalton Resort Saint Lucia to celebrate twenty-five years with Just 4 Fun (J4F). The event was broadcast live via YouTube and began with pre-interviews hosted by news anchor and media personality Oneka McCoy and Ranking Morgan from 123 Digital, a digital marketer for J4F.
There were several prominent interviewees, such as the chairperson of the Carnival Planning Management Committee, Miss Tamara Gibson, Donna Joseph former J4F model and stagecoach/executive team member for J4F, Honorable Doctor Ernest Hilaire, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Industries and most importantly Roystan Taylor, Band Leader for Just 4 Fun Carnival Band.
“Celebrating twenty-five years is a proud feeling, very few have achieved this milestone, so I have to thank my team……. Just 4 Fun is all about coming together as a family,” Mr Taylor expressed. He also stated, “Carnival twenty-five years ago was mainly focused on culture, and while that is important, it was missing the fun aspect, hence the band and the name Just 4 Fun”.
When asked, looking back twenty-five years and looking forward to the next twenty-five years, what are J4F’s plans to continue its legacy for the future, Taylor said: “Like every business, there is a transition; you move on and be willing to accept new persons be willing to accept new ideas transcend and adapt, and we will be around for the next twenty-five years.”
Just 4 Fun has been portrayed as more than just a carnival band; they also host some of the biggest events on the Saint Lucia Carnival calendar, such as Remedy Beach Fete, Escape, Indulgence Breakfast fete and in the earlier years, Cooler fete and Soca Switch, which was a Soca music competition geared at providing up and coming Soca artist with an opportunity to showcase themselves and their music. J4F also consists of a J’Ouvert band formally known as Blue Devils.
The night featured a video presentation depicting a look back at the band throughout the years and was capped off with the unveiling of the costumes for this year’s parade. The portrayal, themed Mas, comprises eight sections crafted by various designers, some out of Trinidad.
