It has been a busy year for Machel Montano – and it’s not over yet! Following the launch of his King of Soca book in July, the global soca star has been busy writing the next chapter in his life story.

Living up to his King of Soca moniker, Montano put on a terrific performance at his sold-out show, 40 years of Montano, on Monday 5 September at the Barclays Center Brooklyn, in New York.
During Trinidad & Tobago’s Republic Day celebrations on 24 September, Machel was honoured with a well-deserved Hummingbird Gold National Award for his contributions to music. Machel’s 40-year-long career has spanned two-thirds of T&T’s existence as an independent nation!
After accepting the award, the singer thanked his parents – “Their love, guidance and support throughout the years have absolutely been my foundation” – the rest of his family, managers and fans around the world.
A few days later, on 7 October, the King of Soca joined Afrobeats giant Burna Boy to thrill an energetic crowd to unforgettable performances at the Tipsy Music Festival in Miami, Florida.
Looking ahead, Montano will be headlining the all-inclusive (yes, even alcohol!) Melé Cruise, which departs Miami on 27 April 2023, returning on 1 May. Guests on cruise ship Norwegian Joy are promised the chance to “Mix. Mingle. Music. Mas. Machel. Melé!”. For details and bookings, visit Mele Destinations.
