The Kitchener Legacy 2 delivered a rich celebration of calypso history at the Trinity College East Auditorium on Saturday (May 9), paying tribute to the music of the late Lord Kitchener.
Backed by Vincent Rivers and D Soca Unit, the show moved seamlessly under the lively direction of MC Sunny Bling. Veteran artist Pink Panther, singing for over 50 years, drew strong applause with Marjorie’s Flirtations and 12 Bar Joan. Aaron Duncan, born three years after Kitchener’s death, followed with confident renditions of The Road and Winston Spree.
Gypsy brought humour to Miss Tourist and Trinidad Time, extemporising after briefly forgetting lyrics and blaming it on age. Reigning 2026 Calypso Monarch Terri Lyons impressed with Tay Lay Lay and her winning song Blessing.
Following intermission, College Boy Jesse performed Carnival Baby, Gimme The Ting and his own Happy Song. Kernal Roberts, Kitchener’s son, led the finale, joined by Dane Gulston on tenor pan for Iron Man, Bees Melody, Pan in A Minor, Sugar Bum Bum and The Carnival Is Over.
