Lashley ‘Motto’ Winter is a super producer and soca artiste from Saint Lucia, currently hurtling towards being a huge international soca star. He’s well prepared for creating his own global soca empire, having gained not just a bachelor’s degree in Music, but two other degrees in Information Technology and Mass Communications.
Motto, owner of label Team Foxx, has a claim to fame for his role in the creation of the ‘Dennery Segment’. It’s a sound based on Kuduro rhythms from Angola developed by Saint Lucian soca artistes from the town of Dennery. Motto’s tunes include breakthrough track Bend Dong in 2014, groovy soca number Born Whiner, and last year’s big ones, Force It and Guttah.
Motto’s riddims currently rule the roost in carnivals all over the world. Released at the end of last year, his lively Pim Pim Riddim gave us both Party Lit (with Lyrikal) and a tune he produced for Machel Montano for the 2018 Carnival season, Showtime. This year his Gwada Riddim is taking the place by storm, Bunji Garlin riding it for his tune Go Ask Your Mudda and Motto himself performing with Fadda Fox on Shell Dong Dat. His latest offering is on Take Jamm featuring Trinidadian Shal Marshal and Vincentian Hypa 4000.
He’ll be in London at the Get Mad Fest on Saturday 25 August at 229 The Venue, 229 Great Portland Street, London, W1W 5PN.
