Marge and Nailah Blackman have collaborated to make musical history with their newest single, Endless Vibration.
The duo – daughter and grand-daughter respectively of soca music founder Lord Shorty/Ras Shorty I – have lent their talents and voices to this celebration of their heritage.
The song’s title references Lord Shorty’s ground-breaking Endless Vibrations (plural), which was released in 1974/75. However, the new song is far more than a reworking of Shorty’s classic – both lyrics and style are quite different. It was released on Friday 6 October, which would have marked his 82nd birthday.
Lord Shorty (Garfield Blackman) is acknowledged as the creator of soca music. The first song to demonstrate his melding of African and Indian rhythms and instrumentation – which he termed sokah – was his 1973 composition Indrani.
Endless Vibration is available to be streamed and downloaded on all major platforms across the globe.
