After a competitive semifinal round, nine talented Calypsonians have secured spots in the 2025 Dominica Calypso finals. Four women are eager to claim the prestigious title, going head-to-head against the reigning Calypso Monarch, King Dice, who has dominated the competition with ten victories since 2004.
Despite unfavourable weather conditions, devoted calypso fans turned out in large numbers, just as they did for the quarterfinals, to witness 20 performers compete in the semifinals. After intense deliberation, the judges selected a lineup that includes five former monarchs and a promising newcomer, Lady Esse, whose song Silver Lake Again highlights the struggles of residents in a small community.
Trendsetter was absent from the final lineup even though his song De Pee Pee was well received. This sparked a debate among calypso enthusiasts who believed he deserved a spot. Many fans have expressed disappointment over his omission, calling it a significant oversight after what they considered a flawless performance.
The 2025 Dominica Calypso finals are scheduled for Saturday 1 March, at Windsor Park Forecourt.
