As Mas Domnik 2025 came to an end, RAGS, a collaboration by Trilla G (Gael Jno. Baptiste), Shell (Sheldon Alfred), and Skinny Fabulous (Gamal Doyle), was crowned the first-ever Bouyon Road March winner. The song, chosen through public voting, highlights Bouyon’s growing acceptance in the Carnival scene.
Co-written by Trilla G, Shelly, and DJ Oberr (Christon Jno. Baptiste), RAGS was produced by A Plus Musik at Th3rd House Studios in St. Thomas, USVI. Trilla G’s vocals were recorded there, with additional sessions taking place in Miami, Trinidad, and Dominica. The track’s melody was inspired by Never Enough from The Greatest Showman.
Winning with 108 votes, RAGS led a field of 56 entries, including Asa Bantan, Khallion, Gwada G, and Ebony Empress. The award, founded by Emile Depooter and Robert Tonge, highlights Bouyon’s expanding reach beyond Dominica. Depooter, noting Bouyon’s presence across the Caribbean, emphasised the importance of formally recognising the genre’s artists.
Trilla G celebrated the win, acknowledging the contributions of his collaborators and producers. Shelly, a former Junior Calypso Monarch, referred to it as a historic moment, while Skinny Fabulous praised the cultural unity between Dominica and St. Vincent.
While the Road March title went to Trendsetter (Narrin Murphy) for Dee Pee Pee (DPP), this new Bouyon category marks a milestone in the genre’s evolution. Depooter hopes future editions will be structured more professionally, potentially with official backing.
