Saint Lucia is the latest country to announce that its carnival has fallen victim to the coronavirus, Covid-19.
The carnival, scheduled for Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 July this year, has been postponed until July 2021, according to a statement released on Friday 27 March 2020 by the Government of Saint Lucia.
The statement explained that holding the carnival would compromise local efforts to contain the virus in these unpredictable times. Taking into consideration travel restrictions, other regional events and government funding, it was felt better to reschedule the carnival for July 2021.
The St Lucian Carnival Bands Association declared itself fully in agreement with this decision and has said its members will now present their 2020 portrayals in 2021. Any pre-paid purchases and deposits will be honoured next year.
Soca News anticipates that Saint Lucia Carnival will now be held on 19 and 20 July 2021, but it is vital that you check our website for further updates before making any bookings.
